Smoke & Carbon Monoxide
It’s really important to make sure your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms are working properly – they can save lives, so make sure you test them regularly. We’ve put together this quick guide to help you make sure your alarms are working as they should.
Test your detectors regularly
To make sure they’re working as they should, press the “test” button. Can you hear the alarm sound loud and clear from every room in the house? Try this once a month, and give them a gentle clean once in a while to get rid of any dust.
They will beep when they need replacing. They’re not battery operated, so call us to log a repair as soon as you notice them beeping.
If you’re worried your alarm isn’t working properly or it beeps at regular intervals, report it to us and we will either replace it or repair it. And, if you think you should have more alarms at home than you do, give us a call and we’ll see what we can do!
Carbon Monoxide (CO)
Carbon Monoxide, also known as CO, is a very dangerous gas. It’s poisonous, but you can’t see it or smell it, and it can be produced by fuels such as gas, oil, wood and coal.
Having a Carbon Monoxide alarm is the most reliable way of checking there aren’t dangerous levels of this dangerous gas in your home. All our homes that feature fuel burning appliances will have at least one CO alarm fitted, but you may have more if there is more than one appliance. Just like smoke detectors, you’ll need to text your CO alarm monthly to make sure it’s functioning as it should be.
Common household appliances that may use carbon-based fuels include:
- Boilers
- Gas Fires
- Central Heating
- Water Heaters
- Cookers and
- Open Fires
